A club associate at a front-end register can also check it when you are in store. Note that the BJ's mobile app is used for redemption rather than for balance lookup, so do not expect to find a balance checker inside it.

Where it works depends on the format, and this is the single most important thing on the page.

A plastic BJ's gift card is redeemable for membership fees and merchandise at BJ's club front-end registers, on BJs.com, in the BJ's mobile app, and at BJ's Gas locations.

A BJ's e-Gift Card is redeemable for membership fees at club front-end registers and for merchandise at front-end registers or at checkout on BJs.com. BJ's states directly that the e-Gift Card is not redeemable at BJ's Gas locations.

BJ's confirms that members can both buy and pay with gift cards on BJs.com, and that both plastic and digital cards work in club and online. The membership fee angle is worth repeating: this card can settle the annual fee, not just the shopping basket.

BJ's sells its cards in dollars in the United States, so there is no Naira purchase price. The Naira figure that exists is the resale value of a card you already hold, as a percentage of the dollar face value.

Warehouse club cards generally price well for a retail card, because the merchandise range is broad and the card covers groceries, household goods, electronics and fuel rather than one narrow category. Live figures are on the BJ's rate page.

Today's rate is rate per dollar. Three factors move it.

Format is first and it is unusually significant here. A plastic card that works at BJ's Gas is more useful than an e-Gift Card that does not, and fuel is a major reason buyers want this brand. State your format when you ask for a quote.

Second is the membership fee angle, which supports the rate, because the card is usable by someone who is not yet a member and that widens the buyer pool. Third is the parallel market dollar rate, moving the Naira side independently.

The format split is where this goes wrong. A buyer quotes a plastic-card rate, receives an e-Gift Card code, and then adjusts downward on the grounds that it does not work at the pump. Sometimes that is a genuine correction and sometimes it is a planned renegotiation, and once the code is sent you have no leverage either way.

Four habits close the gap.

1. State the format in writing, plastic or e-Gift Card, before any rate is agreed.
2. Verify your own balance at bjs.com/giftcard before you release images.
3. Keep the original receipt. BJ's reissues a lost card only with that receipt, because it carries the card number, so it is your only recovery route.
4. Never send a full card number and security code to an individual account with no verifiable business behind it.

There is no Nigerian redemption route. BJ's clubs, gas locations and BJs.com all serve the United States.

Forwarding is a poor fit for this brand specifically. A warehouse club's value proposition is bulk, and bulk is exactly what does not forward economically. Multi-packs of groceries and household goods weigh far too much to justify international freight, and the categories that would ship well are not where a club card's advantage lies.

No. Clubs, gas stations and the website are United States operations, and BJs does not ship to Nigeria.

Forwarding is technically possible but rarely sensible here, because the categories where a warehouse club is cheapest are the bulky ones that cost the most to ship. Unless you have a specific light, high-value item in mind, converting the balance to Naira is the better outcome.

BJ's e-Gift Cards are emailed and normally arrive shortly after the order clears payment. Large or first-time orders can be held for a fraud review, which delays delivery without meaning anything is wrong with the card.

If a card has not arrived, check spam, confirm the recipient email on the order, then call 1-800-971-3773. Remember that whatever arrives is an e-Gift Card, with the fuel exclusion attached, rather than a digital version of the plastic card.

No. BJ's states the card is not redeemable for cash, check or credit except as required by law, and there is no route back to your original payment method.

One related mechanism is worth knowing. Merchandise bought with the card follows BJ's ordinary return policy, and a refund on returned goods typically goes back to the card rather than to cash, so a card you thought was spent can carry value again after a return.

Selling the balance is a separate transaction between you and a buyer, not a refund from BJ's.

Two things are worth knowing even though they are not fees. Gift card purchases are excluded from BJ's definition of eligible purchases for rewards earning, so buying gift cards does not earn you rewards on a Club+ or Business Club+ membership. And BJ's will reissue a lost card only with the original receipt, so losing the receipt effectively removes your safety net without costing you a fee.

BJ's does not publish a consumer reload facility for its wholesale club gift cards, so treat the card as fixed-value and buy an additional card if you want more.

Be careful with information you find elsewhere on this point. BJ's Restaurants and Brewhouse is a completely separate company with its own gift card programme and its own reload rules, and the two brands are constantly confused online because they share the initials. A reload instruction you find for "BJ's" may belong to the restaurant chain rather than the warehouse club.

Physical cards hand over directly with no transfer process. e-Gift Cards are ordered on BJs and emailed to the recipient.

Two things to tell the recipient. The card can pay the membership fee, so they do not need to already be a member to get value from it, which is genuinely useful and often unknown. And if it is an e-Gift Card, it will not work at BJ's Gas, so they should not plan a fuel run around it.
